A mother-daughter combination from Poquoson sparked their team to first place in their flight as the USTA Virginia 18-and-over district championships continued at Huntington Park, Old Dominion and Christopher Newport. Charo Hunter and her daughter Andrea Carothers, who now lives in Lynchburg, each went 3-0 for the weekend as their Virginia Beach-based team won all three of their matches at the 4.5 level. Hunter played all three of her matches in doubles, while Carothers -- a former state champ for Poquoson High and U.Va. graduate -- won twice in singles and once in doubles. By winning their flight, they advanced to the Mid-Atlantic Section championships Aug. 8-11 at Huntington Park and CNU....
